Human beings have an innate need for stability.
Everyone needs some sense of permanence in their lives. That‘s why we buy homes, we invest our money, we get married, we order the same drink at Starbucks or meal from Chipotle, and we tend to drive the same route to work everyday; all because we crave stability. And if by chance we should venture off into “the unknown,” we always like the familiar feeling of anything that could be considered “home.” Without it, we are prone to anxiety and panic, and will eventually become overcome by fear.
A firm constant in the life of the believer is our conviction that God is. Not that God was or God used to be…. God is. This is a foundational truth.
God never changes. He doesn‘t recant. He doesn’t revoke. He remains.
In Genesis 21:33 Abraham called Him the Everlasting God. Moses declared Him as I AM that I AM in Exodus 3:14. And Malachi teaches that He is the Lord who does not change in Malachi 3:6. But for me, this one takes the cake:
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8, NLT
Change can only be true if there‘s evidence that something actually happened.
There is a concept known as The Doctrine of Immutability. It basically emphasizes that God cannot undergo real or intrinsic change in any respect.
The famed Greek philosopher Plato believed that change can only be for better or for worse. So then, consider God, who is perfect; He can’t get better because there’s nothing better than perfection and He can’t get worse because then He would no longer be perfect. Simply put, God cannot change.
God remains. He consistently remains. And He will consistently remain forever.
God doesn‘t change in His nature, and He also cannot be influenced by others.
Romans 2:11 teaches us that God shows no partiality. That means that someone can‘t try to convince God to love you any less or to withhold a blessing from you. A person’s opinion about you in no way influences our All-Knowing God, who reads the depth of your heart and knows the source of your intentions anyway. God’s arm can‘t be twisted.
Nothing can surprise God, or catch Him off guard, either. Nothing you do and nothing you face ever causes your Heavenly Father to be alarmed. He is never left scrambling to figure out what to do next. In fact, Proverbs 37:23 declares that your steps have already been ordered by the Lord.
God is infinite, so He is not bound by the same confines as humans. He does not sit in heaven trying to figure out ways to solve your problems or disappointments. God already knows the end from the beginning. If He has brought you to it, rest assured that you‘ve already been equipped to handle it with His grace and by His Spirit!
He’s the same yesterday: The proof is in the pudding. We can read in the Word of God of the testimonies of God’s provision and faithfulness to His people.
He‘s the same today: We are proof of God‘s immutability. We have been brought into fellowship with His Son, Jesus and morning by morning we have access to His unfailing grace.
He‘s the same tomorrow: Heaven is proof of the future to a believer. Our hope and joy rests in the promise that one day we will live with our God eternally.
God remains. He remains merciful, loving, patient, and all–sufficient. He still loves justice. He still hates sin. He still welcomes repentance. His righteousness remains. His wisdom remains. His power remains. His love for you remains.
Today you can be completely content in knowing that Christ is enough. His stability, consistency, and reliability has been proven.
To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all time, and now, and for all eternity. AMEN! Jude 1:25
